Dear Beginning Band Students and Parents,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome your
student to the Campus Middle School Beginning Band Program.
It is our hope that your student will become a proficient
player on his/her instrument and will learn to enjoy music
through rehearsal and performance. The beginning band will
be performing two concerts during the year. The winter and
spring concerts will be held at C.M.S. We invite you to

Here you will find more information about Beginning Band
and the band program in general. Every letter sent home
will be posted on the website!
During the first week of school,
band members will be expected to try out instruments they
have interest in and decide on a first and second choice of
instrument they would like to play. Beginning band students
can choose from the following instruments:
Trombone,
Trumpet, Flute, Clarinet, and Saxophone
Occasionally a student might be placed on his/her second
choice instrument due to the overall instrumentation of the
band. Parents will be notified via phone if a second choice
is recommended.
There is a very limited number of percussion (drum/bell)
players in the beginning band. All percussionists must have
previously had one year of piano lessons and complete a
music aptitude audition. CMS percussionists will spend
the first two quarters playing the mallet (bells)
instruments. If you are determined to play percussion, we
suggest choose an instrument to play in band and enroll in
private drum lessons on the side.
We are excited to welcome back Sara Wynes to the band
faculty at CMS for her second year. Sara was the band and
orchestra director at Liberty Middle School for six years
and this year she will continue to spend her mornings
teaching music at CCHS and her afternoons with the CMS 6th
grade musicians. The sixth graders have the unique
opportunity to have two teachers in the classroom who
happen to be married!
