FAQ’s
When does Jazz Band
rehearse?
Jazz Band rehearses three days a week on Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday. You can find the 2010-2011
rehearsal schedule here (pdf) and
here (google calendar).
Sometimes the Wednesday morning rehearsal will be a
‘sectional’ day and only one section will be
rehearsing.
What time are the
rehearsals?
Rehearsals will start at 7:00 AM and end at 7:45 AM.
Students need to arrive at the school by 6:50 AM in order
for rehearsal to start at the appropriate time.
What instruments are in Jazz Band?
We use a traditional instrumentation for the CMS Jazz Band:
5 Saxophones (2 alto, 2 tenor, and one bari)
5 Trombones
5-6 Trumpets
2 Drumset
1 Bass Guitar
1 Keyboard
1 Electric Guitar (optional)
How can I be in this
ensemble?
The Jazz Band will hold auditions every year in September.
This year the auditions are on September 7th, after school
in the band room. Come by the band room, grab some music,
and sign up for an audition time!
What if I don’t play
an instrument that is in Jazz Band? Can I still play
Jazz?
Yes, you can play jazz on any instrument. Some of the
biggest jazz icons play(ed) jazz on other instruments like
Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Tuba, ect.
If you are interested in jazz and don’t play a
“Jazz Band” instrument, you have the option of
joining the CMS Jazz Lab. Jazz Lab is open to any student
who is interested in jazz.
I
don't have any jazz music, I don't listen to anyone playing
jazz?
Well now is a great time
